Worker’s Compensation now a faster option
- 0 Comments
Workers Compensation is a type of insurance that provides medical care for employees who are injured on the job in lieu of mandatory relinquishment of the employee’s right to sue the employer for negligence. The trade-off between assured, limited coverage and lack of recourse outside the worker compensation system is known as “the compensation bargain.” It is mandatory for every company in United States, with a few exceptions, to have workers compensation insurance. Employees’ compensation laws are usually a feature of highly developed industrial societies, implemented after long and hard-fought struggles by trade unions. Supporters of such programs believe they improve working conditions and provide an economic safety net for employees.
Different states in the US have different rules and guidelines for such kind of insurance cover but all have to abide by it anyway. For example, in Michigan, all employers are required by Michigan Law to carry a Michigan Workers Compensation Insurance policy. However, in Alabama, only a business that has five or more employees is required by law to have workers’ compensation coverage. In addition, employers of domestic employees, farm labourers, or casual employees and municipalities having a population of less than 2,000, according to the most recent federal census, are not required to provide Alabama Workers Compensation Insurance coverage.
It is to be noted that making a false workers compensation claim, or making a false statement for the purpose of obtaining or denying workers compensation benefits, is a criminal offence. Also, general damages for pain and suffering, and damages for employer negligence, are generally not available in worker compensation plans.
